CWC

The Centre for Wireless Communications (CWC) was established in 1995 as a research programme connected to the Telecommunication Laboratory of the University of Oulu. CWC is the leading academic wireless communications research center in Finland and is well known in the worldwide research community.

The CWC aims at being one of the leading institutes in wireless communication systems research in the world. The mission of CWC is to carry out research in an academic environment with the objective of supporting users and developers of wireless communication systems in the surrounding society in their research, development and application projects.

CWC's research is organised in projects receiving external funding from competitive sources outside the university. CWC's annual budget of approximately 5 Meur is composed of the funding received from its research partners including, Finnish and international industry, Tekes, Academy of Finland, Finnish Defence Forces and the European Commission.

CWC's research has two dimensions − fundamental long-term research and applied research that supports customers' needs and allows more robust theory to be tested in the real world. Significant competencies have been built in Broadband Wireless Access (BWA), Short Range Communications (SRC) and Security & Defence (S&D) applications in several research projects.
